This project linked a Gothic Revival chapel with a 1950s-era brick church. The chapel is the oldest building in Chester, and we used its detailing to develop the architectural character of the new building. This was accomplished with the following changes:
  • Developing a new entrance to the church
  • Designing the new building so that it can be seen from all directions
  • Relocating the chapel to a more prominent site facing the intersection of a major street
  • Maintaining an intimate character and small town preference of the congregation while giving the space needed
  • Preserving trees on the visible site in suburban Chesterfield, giving the impression of a church in the woods.
The church has faced explosive growth since the 1995 expansion, and we have begun construction of a fellowship hall and some additional interior renovations. Photos, elevation and floor plan drawings are illustrated below.
